IT Consulting & Projects

One-off IT work with a written scope, a clear price and a finish line.

What is IT consulting?

IT consulting is project-based technology work with a defined scope, price and finish line, as opposed to ongoing monthly support. Typical projects include office moves, network rebuilds, retiring on-site servers, and merging two Microsoft 365 tenants after an acquisition.

Some IT work does not fit a monthly support agreement: moving office, opening a second location, replacing a network, retiring a server or merging with another business. These projects are where corners get cut, because they land on top of everyone else's normal job.

We scope the work in writing, agree a price and a timeline, and run it from start to finish. When it is done, we walk you through what was set up and confirm everything works as agreed.

What is included

Everything in the service.

Assessment and roadmap

A review of your current IT, with the priorities and rough costs for the next one to three years talked through with you.

Office moves and fit-outs

Internet service ordered early, cabling and Wi-Fi planned for the new space, and equipment moved and tested before staff arrive.

Network builds and refreshes

Firewalls, switches and Wi-Fi designed and installed as one system.

Server retirement

On-site servers replaced with Microsoft 365, SharePoint or Azure, and the old hardware securely wiped.

Tenant-to-tenant migrations

Two Microsoft 365 environments merged after an acquisition, or separated after a sale.

Device refresh

New laptops and desktops specified, configured and deployed, and old ones securely wiped.

Vendor and provider coordination

Internet providers, cabling contractors, landlords and software vendors chased and coordinated, so your staff are not stuck on hold.

How a project runs.

  1. A first conversation

Usually the free 45-minute IT assessment, by phone or video, to understand what you need and whether a project is the right answer.

  2. A site survey

For office moves, network builds and Wi-Fi work, we visit the site in Calgary or the surrounding towns to see the space, cabling and equipment before scoping the work.

  3. A written scope and a fixed price

Agreed in writing before any work starts.

  4. Delivery

Work that interrupts staff, such as cutovers and network changes, is scheduled outside business hours where possible, with a rollback plan if something does not go as expected.

  5. Sign-off

We confirm together that everything works as agreed before the project is closed.

What a written scope covers.

  • Objectives

What the project has to achieve, in business terms.

  • In scope and out of scope

What we will do, and just as importantly, what we will not.

  • Deliverables

What you will have at the end.

  • Timeline and milestones

Key dates, including lead times outside our control, such as internet installs.

  • Responsibilities

What we handle, and what your staff, landlord, internet provider or other vendors need to do.

  • Risks and rollback

What could go wrong, and how a change would be safely undone.

  • Price and acceptance

The fixed price, how it is invoiced, and how we both agree the work is finished.

Questions

IT Consulting & Projects, answered.

Do we need a monthly agreement to use you for a project?

No. Projects are quoted and delivered on their own. If you later want ongoing support, that is a separate conversation, with no obligation.

How is a project priced?

We agree a fixed price for a written scope before work starts. If something outside that scope turns up, we explain it and agree any change before doing the work.

How early should we plan an office move?

Earlier than most people expect. Business internet installs can take several weeks, so get in touch as soon as you have a new address and a move date.

Do you work outside Calgary?

Yes. We work on site in Calgary and the surrounding towns, and remotely anywhere else in Alberta. Work that needs someone at the equipment is limited to the Calgary area.

Can you work alongside our current IT provider?

Yes. We can deliver a project and hand it back to your existing provider or in-house IT, so ongoing support stays where it is.

How long does a typical project take?

A device refresh can take days. Office moves and network rebuilds usually take weeks, because they depend on internet installs, cabling and equipment deliveries. The scope sets out the timeline before you commit.
