Business Continuity & Disaster Recovery

Backups that have been tested, and a plan for the day you need them.

What is business continuity and disaster recovery?

Business continuity and disaster recovery (BCDR) is the combination of backups, recovery procedures and planning that keeps a business running through data loss, ransomware or an outage. Backup keeps copies of your data, disaster recovery is the tested process for restoring systems within an agreed time, and continuity covers how people keep working in the meantime.

Almost every business believes it has backups. Far fewer have ever restored from one. The distance between those two positions is where companies lose weeks of work, and it is usually discovered at the worst possible moment.

We back up endpoints, servers and Microsoft 365, keep protected copies off-site, test restores on a schedule and write down who does what when something fails.

What is included

Everything in the service.

Endpoint and server backup

Company laptops and servers backed up on a schedule, not just the files someone remembered to copy.

Microsoft 365 backup

Microsoft keeps the platform running, but retaining your mail and files is your responsibility. We cover that gap.

Immutable off-site copies

A second copy held where it cannot be altered or deleted for a set period, which is what actually defeats ransomware.

Scheduled restore testing

Restores performed and verified to a schedule, so recovery is proven rather than assumed.

Documented recovery plan

Who gets called, what comes back first and agreed targets for how quickly you are operating again.

Ransomware response sequence

Isolate, assess, then restore from a known clean point, in a written order rather than improvised under pressure.

Retention aligned to obligations

How long data is kept, set against what your industry and insurer actually require.

Questions

Business Continuity & Disaster Recovery, answered.

Does Microsoft 365 not back itself up?

Not in the way most people assume. Microsoft guarantees the service, and there are limited retention windows, but protecting your own data against deletion, ransomware and mistakes is left to you. That is the gap this service fills.

How quickly could we be back up?

That depends on what fails and what you decide matters most, which is exactly what the recovery plan sets out. We agree those targets with you in advance rather than discovering them during an incident.

Where is the backup data held?

Off-site, and we can keep it in Canadian regions where the platform supports it. If you have contractual or regulatory requirements about where data lives, tell us and we will design around them.
