Azure & Virtual Desktop

Retire the server in the back room, and give staff a desktop that works from anywhere.

What is Azure Virtual Desktop?

Azure Virtual Desktop is a Microsoft service that runs Windows desktops and applications in Azure data centres and streams them to any device. Staff sign in from a laptop, tablet or home computer and get the same managed desktop, while the data and applications stay in the cloud rather than on the device.

Plenty of businesses still depend on a server in a back room: an accounting system, a line-of-business application or a file share that never moved to Microsoft 365. When that hardware ages out, replacing it like-for-like is expensive and keeps the same single point of failure.

We move those workloads into Microsoft Azure, sized for what you actually use. Where staff need a full Windows desktop from home or on the road, we deliver it with Azure Virtual Desktop. Costs are tracked, backup and recovery are built in, and nothing depends on one box in the office.

What is included

Everything in the service.

Assessment and costing

A review of your servers and applications, with a projected monthly Azure cost before anything moves.

Server migration

Business applications and databases moved onto Azure virtual machines, or onto managed Azure services where they are cheaper to run.

Azure Virtual Desktop

Windows 11 multi-session desktops with FSLogix profiles, so staff get the same desktop and apps on any device.

Cost management

Autoscaling that shuts down unused capacity out of hours, budgets with alerts, and reserved capacity where it saves money.

Backup and recovery

Azure Backup for virtual machines and files, with site recovery for systems that cannot be down for long.

Security and identity

Access through Entra ID with MFA and Conditional Access, and nothing exposed to the internet that does not need to be.

Ongoing management

Patching, monitoring and capacity reviews, so the environment stays secure and right-sized.

Questions

Azure & Virtual Desktop, answered.

Is Azure cheaper than keeping a server?

Sometimes, not always. A small server that runs quietly for years can be cheaper on premises. The case for Azure is usually resilience, remote access and avoiding a hardware refresh, so we give you a costed comparison before recommending either.

Do we need extra licences for Azure Virtual Desktop?

Many Microsoft 365 plans, including Business Premium, already include the right to use Azure Virtual Desktop, so you mainly pay for the Azure compute and storage it runs on. We confirm this against your licences during the assessment.

Will our older applications work?

Most Windows applications that run on a server or desktop today will run in Azure. We test each one before cutover and flag early any that need an update from the software vendor.
